Rick moved to Utah in 1992 in order to become
pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Ogden.He was born in New Jersey and grew up there.He attended Rutgers University as a pre-med student before
deciding to enter the ministry.He received a BA degree (magna cum laude) in Psychology from
Grove City College.He
then worked on a MA in counseling and for a year was a therapist in
a drug rehabilitation unit in Philadelphia.In 1978, he married Jill Joyce Kelley and entered Princeton
Theological Seminary from which he received his Masters of Divinity
Degree in 1981.He then
served two pastoral positions in Pittsburgh.
During that time, he earned
his Doctor of Ministry Degree from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.Rick has taken conflict management training through the Alban
institute and is a certified trainer for Active Parenting, Inc.He has published an article in Leadership magazine
“Handling Conflict from the Inside Out,” a web article for
Presbyterians for Renewal entitled “Homosexuality: Was Jesus Really
Silent?” and “Are We Losing Our Rudder” on the state of Biblical
authority for the Magazine Reform.He currently sits on the editorial board for ReNews.
Rick is involved in a number of musical
endeavors that have included directing a choral choir and an English
Hand Bell Choir, performance in a band as vocalist, guitarist,
keyboardist and bassist, and leading singing in many venues.He is currently serving on the Board of the Salvation Army’s
Ogden branch.In service
to the denomination he has been a member and moderator of Committee
on Preparation for ministry in both Utah and Pittsburgh Presbytery,
a delegate to General Assembly in 1996, delegate to the Synod of the
Trinity and a Master Teacher at Synod School in the Synod of the
Trinity.He has also
served on an moderated Utah Presbytery’s, has been Moderator of the
Presbytery of Utah and the synod of the Rocky Mountains
In his spare time (?), he skies and is a member
of the Kiwanis Club of Odgen and has served as Lt. Governor for the
Utah Idaho district of Kiwanis, Int.He has recently earned his certification as an open water
scuba diver.Rick’s
wife, Jill, is an ordained minister of the Word and Sacrament and
the pastor of Ogden Japanese Christian Church as well as a computer
lab manager for the Ogden City School District.Together they have 3 children.Peter is 24 and working on his Nursing degree.Robert is 20 and is enrolled at Weber State University in
their Law Enforcement program.Their youngest, Carly, is 19 and is going though Navy Basic
Training in Great Lakes, IL.
